Praia de Carvoeiro is the best in Europe in 2018
Several beaches in the Algarve are listed among the best beaches in Europe.
Praia de Carvoeiro, in the municipality of Lagoa, was voted the best beach in Europe in 2018 by European Best Destinations. Praia da Fuzeta, on Armona Island, in Olhão, also appears on the list of the best European beaches of the year.
European Best Destinations refers to Carvoeiro as "a small town full of charm" and points to its beach as "one of the most beautiful" that visited during the period of travel in Europe. "The sea is beautiful, the water is neither too cold nor too hot, the waves can be strong or, on the contrary, gentle enough to paddle and discover the nearby caves."
Praia da Fuzeta is praised for its "turquoise waters, tranquility and a lovely scenery".
This Brussels-based European organization aims to promote Europe as a tourist and cultural destination, in partnership with the Tourism Offices and the Eden Network (a platform of good practice among award-winning destinations).
In the list of the best beaches of the year, besides the two Algarve representatives - which are the only Portuguese - there are beaches in Greece, Croatia, England, Ireland, Spain or France.
